Mind your kids

I JUST read the front-page news “Reunited after ordeal” (NST, July 28) and saw the picture of a happy mother and her two daughters.

Why were they so happy? Because they were reunited after the daughters were abducted and abandoned 20km away in pitch darkness at 11.30pm on Monday. This was in Liman Kati, Kuala Kangsar.

Why did it happen? The mother left the two sleeping beauties in an unlocked car with the engine running to go into a shop for a moment.

How many times have we read of similar incidents? Endless times, until we have lost track of them all. It puzzles me why parents keep doing this despite being warned by police after every incident.

These days, a split second can make a whole world of difference; it can result in death or rape. Some children are forever gone like Tin Shong Sheng, 7, who went missing in 1996 near his school.

The mother in Kuala Kangsar should thank God for sparing her the agony. There’s a lesson to be learned
