Package holidays make comeback

package holidays to sun-kissed beach resorts are enjoying a resurgence as families bid to avoid flight cancellations and the fear of airlines going bust.
Despite the volcanic ash cloud disruption and a series of BA cabin crew strikes, the number of passengers taking chartered flights increased by 5.3%, according to BAA.
Industry analysts claim travellers see package holidays as a relatively safe option while the pound’s poor rate against the euro has also driven a preference for all-inclusive trips.
An Abta spokesman said: “There is recognition that you get financial security with a package holiday if companies go out of business.”
The rise of resorts in Egypt and Turkey has also helped reverse a long-term decline in package holidays that had seen tourists opt instead for do-it-yourself trips, he added.
